The Jerónimos Monastery is one of the most visited monuments in Portugal, and the queues can be long, particularly from late morning in summer. Book your ticket online for a set date, and arrive close to opening time at 9:30.
The ticket office closes at 16:30. The free church has a separate entrance and queue, so you don't need to wait in the cloister line to see Vasco da Gama's tomb.

The two-storey Manueline cloister, with Fernando Pessoa's tomb, the refectory with its azulejo panels, the chapter house with the tomb of the historian Alexandre Herculano, and the upper choir overlooking the church.
The church of Santa Maria de Belém, with its palm-tree columns, the tombs of Vasco da Gama and Luís de Camões, and royal tombs in the chancel. Mind the shorter church hours on Sundays.

Book the official entrance ticket online and spend your time in the cloister, not the ticket queue.
